Which tools can be used for analyzing HTTP traffic?

Traffic analyzer tool are used to analyze the firewall logs and monitor bandwidth utilization. Some tools are also used in the software testing services to check the software vulnerabilities.

Here is the list of most commonly used Network Analyzer tools:

  • Fiddler: It is one of the most widely used tool to capture the http traffic. It is open source tool and provides web debugging as well. Many software testing companies uses fiddler to test the performance of the websites and security testing of the web applications since it provides a detailed information of the HTTP traffic.
  • Wireshark: It is a free tool to analyze the packet flows. It has some important features like reporting, filtering, capturing of live traffic and can run on multiple platforms such as Windows, Linux.
  • PRTG Network Monitor: It is a professional tool to analyze and monitor the data packets and provided a graphical overview of the network traffic. It also provides detailed information such as bandwidth utilization of the applications and record headers of each packet.
  • Microsoft Message Analyzer: It provided a very simple and easy to use UI where a user can add color rules and quickly scan the areas of interest. It provided TLS/SSL decryption and excessive filter options.
  • Nagios: Nagios is commonly used to ensure that applications are up and running and it has features such as alerting and reporting and provides an additional feature of event handling.
