IOT Pilot run testing is a testing process which is now a days being adapted by most of the software testing companies providing IOT testing sevices. Under pilot run testing for any IOT implementation the entire system or a single component is verified using real-time operating conditions. This type of testing is performed on an application for a limited time frame to test the performance and usability of a system. Main motive of this testing is to identify if the product is meeting its business value and early detection of bugs.

Pilot Run is performed so that below mentioned issues can be identified before exposing the application to UAT and Production:
- Early detection of bugs
- Stable network Protocol communication
- Reliability and Scalability of the product.
- Comparability between software and hardware of the product.
- Identification of risks.
